Teachers
Science fair participation gives students an opportunity to develop and share a project. The fair website notes that students benefit from the literacy and mathematics involved, and that projects may be completed individually or in pairs.
Planning and timelines
- Hold school fairs before the end of February.
- By mid-January, contact Sally Telford at stelford@scdsb.on.ca with an estimate of projects. The source site lists a maximum of 15 projects per school.
- Registration usually runs from February into early March. The link is emailed to participating teachers and appears on the homepage.
- Register each project separately. Each team member needs a unique email address and contact information.
- A fee is charged per project and invoiced to the school after registration closes. Late registration is not normally accepted.
Regional fair weekend
The fair is typically held in late March or early April. Project check-in and setup are before 6 p.m. Friday. Judging is Friday from 6–9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.–noon. Activities and entertainment take place throughout the weekend, followed by the awards ceremony on Saturday afternoon.
Students must be supervised by a parent or adult guardian at all times; the committee does not provide student supervision. If a student cannot attend the awards ceremony, prizes are sent through the school courier.
Teacher checklist
Encourage students to plan early, review Rules and Regulations and Safety and Ethics, and complete any required human or animal research approvals before starting. See Human Testing and Animal Testing.
Timelines and contact details are reproduced from the current site and may change by year. Contact the fair to confirm details.
