Students

Congratulations on deciding to participate in the Simcoe County Regional Science and Technology Fair!

Where do I start?

Students who live in Simcoe County and are interested in a science fair project can begin by finding an adult supervisor—a teacher, parent or guardian. The supervisor does not need to be a scientist or science teacher; they can support you when questions come up or you need a helping hand.

Already have an idea, or still looking for a topic? A project can explore the natural world or develop devices and technologies for homes and communities. Visit Project Resources for guidance and inspiration.

Read the Safety and Ethics policies and Rules and Regulations. Projects involving people or animals have additional forms and approval requirements. If you are unsure whether your project meets the ethics requirements, contact the fair.

School science fairs

School fairs usually take place in January or February. Finishing your project well before the deadline gives you time to prepare a display that clearly communicates your thinking and findings.

Registering for the regional fair

The regional fair registration deadline is usually the first week of March. Students participating through a school can register with help from their teacher. A parent or guardian may help students who are not entering through a school. The registration link is posted on the homepage when registration opens, usually in early February.

See registration information.

What to expect at the fair

The regional fair is typically held on a weekend in late March or early April:

The committee does not supervise students at the regional fair. A parent or adult guardian must supervise students at all times, regardless of age.
