Judges
The role of a judge
Volunteer judges make the student experience richer through conversations with exhibitors. Judges bring a wide range of careers, interests, expertise and experience. Judging is an opportunity to encourage, challenge and celebrate student excellence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
No previous judging experience is required. Registered judges receive a guide to the judging process and criteria. A training session is held at the fair before judging begins.
Judging schedule
The fair is typically held on a weekend in late March or early April. Division and category judging takes place Friday evening, 6–9 p.m.; dinner is provided. Judges visit assigned projects and then meet in teams to discuss results and award decisions.
Special awards judging takes place Saturday morning, 9 a.m.–noon. Light refreshments and lunch are provided. Award donors provide criteria for each special award.
